The future is now at the Disney theme parks, so, What is Disney My Magic Plus? Disney has been working on a new technology for some time and has dumped a huge amount of money towards this latest invention. You sure would hope that after spending nearly 2 Billion Dollars on a project that they would have gotten this right the first time, wouldn’t you? Think of all the other expansion Disney could have done over the last few years with that amount of money. They must really feel strongly that this is the right thing to do in order to make each Vacation more memorable for their guests.

What is included?

There are a lot of different elements that make up the Disney Magic Plus program. First of all, you need to understand that there are a couple of ways to get the different features that come with MyMagic+ but the easiest way is to just log on to the website and start setting up your account. Most of the money has gone into the development of the different technologies that make up the system but if you would like to scale this back a little and strip out some of the gadgetry, you can still do that. Bear in mind that if you decide to not go with the full electronic program, you will have a few limitations along the way. Let’s take a look at all of the pieces and put them together to see all of the fascinating ideas that Disney has put together for us.

After you sign up for your new Disney MyMagic Plus Account you will see that everything you plan is kept in one secure place. This can be nice because most people have a mobile device of some kind and as long as you have Internet access, you are able to make changes to your plan on the fly. How convenient is that? Having access to each parks information in the palm of your hand can be, well, handy. Using the Fastpass Plus area, you can sign up for up to 3 different attractions each day long in advance before you ever step foot in the parks. At first, people were concerned that only having access to 3 Attractions was a set back but after some time has gone by, it was shown that this was just an initial lock in of rides. On the days that you actually visit the parks, you can sign up for additional online Fastpasses through your mobile device or at kiosks setup throughout the parks. This can make things very exciting for your trip indeed.

Your kids will love these features too. When my kids were smaller, one of the most important things for them to accomplish when they were at the Disney Parks was to get all of the autographs of the different Disney Characters. Sometimes as adults we can loose sight of some of the fascinating things that our kids enjoy. What makes this nice is to logon to the MyMagic Plus site and get updates on where the characters will be at different times of the day. This can save you countless hours and if it is really important, you can even use your fastpass to pass through the lines to get those precious autographs and pictures and the character meet and greets.

You might be sitting back and thinking, “Wow, what a great idea”, but then again you could be concerned about all of the additional information that Disney will have on you and your family while you are there. You can be sure that Disney will take advantage of using this system to their benefit as well as provide you a great experience as well. Unfortunately, we live in a complete digital world that is changing, for better or worse, without any of our control. One thing you should know moving forward is that none of your personal information is stored physically on the MagicBands. The only thing assigned to the band is a randomly assigned number that binds all of your information from the Disney Encrypted Database to your wristband. That means that if you were to loose your band, it is not like anyone can download information about you or your family from it. Disney has done a good job of making this technology something that is going to end up being mainstream at most of the parks we visit in the future.
